SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Title Rose, West End Kid, and Remember Mama, who pretty much hit the wire all together in the Grade 1 Belmont Derby, are all back for Saturday’s Grade 1, $500,000 Saratoga Derby at 1 3/16 miles on turf.
Title Role, in from Europe for Simon and Ed Crisford, held off a late run from West End Kid to win by a nose, while Remember Mamba was a neck back in third. Bottas (fifth) and Pacific Avenue (seventh, but beaten only 1 1/2 lengths) are also in this field. Pacific Avenue will be getting blinkers and Irad Ortiz Jr. West End Kid will be removing blinkers after suffering his first defeat in his last four starts.
Others entered include Heeere’s Johnny and Glavine, the first- and third-place finishers from the Saranac Stakes on July 2, Glacius, The Big Con, and McCready.
