Good morning, Mets fans!
As expected, the Mets sold big-time at the trade deadline. Eight players on the major league roster were traded, including Tyrone Taylor, Clay Holmes, Brooks Raley and Luke Weaver on Monday.
The only player reported to be shopped by the Mets who was not traded was Luis Robert Jr. David Stearns shared the reasoning behind this in his post-deadline press conference: “It’s the possibility of what he can do for us in the second half. The understanding that there is a club option [$20 million], and the excitement of of still having him here for the next two months of the season.”
Thirteen players were brought into the organization, most notably Jefferson Rojas, the Cubs’ No. 2 prospect, and Mets fan and New York native Sammy Stafura (Pirates No. 9 prospect).

The Mets made a handful of promotions to fill the gaps of the players they traded, per Will Sammon of The Athletic: Dedniel Núñez, Jefry Yan, Nate Lavender, Chayce McDermott, Xzavion Curry and Cristian Pache.
After Monday’s off-day, the new-look Mets will resume action on Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. EST against the Guardians. Sean Manaea will take the mound, looking to give quality innings to a team that gave up nearly all of its high-leverage relievers at the trade deadline.
Mike Mayer of MMO noted that Mitch Voit has been named Eastern League player of the week, in his first week in the league. The 21-year-old had a 1.502 OPS with three steals in his first taste of Double-A action.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that the Boston Red Sox acquired three-time All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles.
Among other trades, Passan reported that the Philadelphia Phillies acquired second baseman Luis Arraez in a trade with the San Francisco Giants.
The Toronto Blue Jays are acquiring right-hander Jose Soriano in a trade with the Los Angeles Angels.
The Seattle Mariners acquired outfielder Taylor Ward in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles.
The Tampa Bay Rays acquired catcher Liam Hicks in a trade with the Miami Marlins.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the Yankees acquired Heliot Ramos in a trade with the Giants.
Rosenthal also reported that the Guardians acquired Foster Griffin from the Nationals.
C. Trent Rosecrans of the Athletic reported that Hector Rodríguez will be called up on Tuesday for the Reds.

1985: Dwight Gooden earned his club-record 11th consecutive victory by pitching the Mets to a 4-1 win over the Chicago Cubs, helping his own cause with a double that sparked a three-run third inning.
On This Date in 1986 Mets
Despite two Cubs being ejected from the game, they managed to beat the first place Mets 4-2. Ron Darling lost to the great Dennis Eckersley after scoring three runs across the fifth and sixth innings. The Mets fell to 69-33 and looked poised to go on a run to the 1986 World Series.
