Tom Selleck’s mild criticism of President Donald Trump while claiming he avoids politics managed to tick off many people on Monday. (Watch the video below.)
The former “Magnum, P.I.” and “Blue Bloods” star’s tight relationship with his “favorite” president, Ronald Reagan, back in the day, in addition to his former NRA board membership, would indicate he’s conservative. But as for his stance on Trump, that isn’t so clear.
CNN’s Elex Michaelson at least got something out of the ex-”Friends” actor.
Noting Selleck’s bond with the Reagans, Michaelson pivoted to the current GOP occupant of the White House.
“How do you feel about him and what he’s doing?” Michaelson asked the 81-year-old TV icon.
“Well, he’s certainly a mixed bag,” Selleck replied. “I stay out of the current political world. Why piss off half the country when you’re in the business of entertaining people?”

Critics went after Selleck on both fronts. They accused him of being a closeted Trump voter while ripping him for trying to avoid controversy.
“Lol, that’s what people say when they don’t want to admit they voted for Trump,” one viewer claimed. “He’s maga.”
“Politics doesn’t stay out of you,” another chimed in. “It affects you and the ones you love everyday. Staying out of politics isn’t an option if you really care about people.”
Praise for Trump and a “fuck you” to his detractors was falsely credited to Selleck in 2016 when in actuality most of the words came from actor Jon Voight.
