Head-to-Head: first meeting
2022 Canadian Open champion Pablo Carreno Busta has achieved good results in the last two months and will be looking to add more match wins at his most successful tournament, ATP Montreal. Valentin Royer has shown promise in his young ATP career, but this season he has struggled with consistency and has won just three tour-level matches. He brings a high upside, but right now Carreno Busta is in better form and is my pick to win this match.

Jacob Fearnley vs Adrian Mannarino
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Jacob Fearnley has been active on the Challenger circuit recently, including a run to the final at Bloomfield Hills and a strong result in Newport. He qualified for Montreal and brings recent match wins and confidence. Adrian Mannarino had a big win over Learner Tien last week, but his record in this tournament is not great. I think Fearnley’s momentum will triumph in this one.

Fabian Marozsan vs Shintaro Mochizuki
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Fabian Marozsan will play his first match since losing in the second round of Wimbledon and will be looking to build some form before the US Open. Except for a semifinal appearance in Mallorca, Marozsan has had a rough run of form in the last three months. Shintaro Mochizuki is a rising Japanese player with a career-high of 92. He has been competitive at Challenger level and produced a standout 2026 Wimbledon run, reaching the fourth round as a qualifier. However, Marozsan’s game suits outdoor hard courts well, and his experience should also come into play here.

Jack Draper vs Terence Atmane
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Jack Draper returned briefly on grass at Eastbourne in June but withdrew from Wimbledon and then Washington due to the arm problem. If he can stay healthy, he has already shown how good he can be, but match sharpness will be a major question mark. Terence Atmane has been in terrible form lately, but his win over Frances Tiafoe last week should give him some confidence. Draper is the better player, but if he shows rust, Atmane is well placed to capitalise.
