1 confirmed dead in collision involving a car, train in Dorchester County

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) — The South Carolina Highway Patrol said one person died following a collision involving a train and another vehicle Tuesday morning.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Pecan Tree Road and Highway 78 in St. George at 11:35 a.m.
Master Trooper William Bennett said a 2007 Honda Accord, which had a single occupant, was traveling east on Pecan Tree Road and was struck by a Norfolk Southern train at the railroad crossing near the intersection of Highway 78.
A 2019 Ford pickup was also struck from behind by the Accord after colliding with the train. The driver of the Accord was transported to the hospital, where they later died from their injuries. The driver of the train and the pickup truck were uninjured.
The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the name of the driver.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
