Roger Federer and Steffi Graf fans were disappointed by tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou’s rankings of the best men’s player, the best active men’s player, and the same for the women’s side for every Grand Slam. Several legends made the list, but not 22-time Grand Slam champion Graf.
Meanwhile, Federer, who won five U.S. Open titles consecutively from 2004 to 2008, was snubbed for five-time U.S. Open champion Pete Sampras in the best-ever men’s tennis player in Flushing Meadows.

Mouratoglou named Carlos Alcaraz as the best current player in the U.S. Open, giving the nod to Serena Williams and Aryna Sabalenka as the women’s best and current best players, respectively.
“Steffi Graf not even mentioned?!” one fan took Graf’s absence as an insult.
“I think Federer’s 5 consecutive US Open titles are massively underrated,” another added. “His other achievements are so big we forget what he did there from 2004-2008. He is slightly above Pete in my opinion.”

For the Australian Open, Patrick Mouratoglou names Novak Djokovic, who basically picks himself, having won the Australian Open a record 10 times. From the current crop of players, the former coach of Serena Williams picked Jannik Sinner, who has lifted the trophy twice already.

Meanwhile, in the women’s list, Mouratoglou picked seven-time AO winner Serena Williams, whereas Aryna Sabalenka, who won back-to-back Australian Open titles in 2023 and 2024, was named the best current player of the tournament.
When it came to Roland Garros, 14-time French Open winner Rafael Nadal was an obvious choice. Two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz was picked from the lot of current players. In women’s, seven-time French Open champion Chris Evert got the nod, while four-time French Open winner Iga Swiatek was picked among the active players.
Finally, at Wimbledon, Roger Federer was named “best-ever,” thanks to his record eight-time Wimbledon men’s singles champion, including five consecutive titles from 2003 through 2007. Mouratoglou mulled over picking Djokovic as well, but he ultimately went with the Swiss legend. Among active players, defending champion Jannik Sinner got the nod.
In women’s, Serena Williams was selected for her seven Wimbledon singles titles, as the best-ever women’s player to take the court. However, the tennis coach didn’t pick anyone from the current crop as he deems no one is consistently winning this tournament in women’s tennis.
