Temperatures are forecast to spike tomorrow (Monday, August 3) with some eastern parts of North Wales reaching 30C. The Met Office expects it to be the prelude to a more unsettled spell next week with “deeper low pressure” possibly looming on the horizon.
Much of the region is due for sunshine and warmth tomorrow, with the mercury hitting the high 20Cs in much of northeast Wales. According to the Met Office, conditions are likely to be slightly cooler further west with temperatures in the mid to low 20Cs.
With the UK tapping in heat from the Continent, South East England and the English Midlands are predicted to see peak temperatures of 32C. Further west, peaks of 30C are forecast for border cities like Wrexham and Chester.
The Met Office expects Wales to be “dry, with clear or sunny spells” on Monday – though cloud increasing in the west could make skies “a little hazy”. It will feel “very warm and humid”, the forecaster added.
Yet showers could reach northeast Wales on Monday evening. By the early hours of Tuesday morning, rain is forecast in much of the region, some of it heavy. Temperatures will dip accordingly, ranging from 19C-22C in northwest Wales and 22C-24C further east.
This sets the tone of the rest of the week, said the Met Office. In its Wales outlook for Tuesday to Thursday, the forecaster said: “Rather changeable with sunny spells and showers, these locally heavy and perhaps thundery on Tuesday.”

In its mid-range UK outlook for Thursday to Saturday, August 6-15, the Met Office said: “A generally changeable period looks likely and many places are likely to see some rain or showers at times, interspersed with drier and sunnier spells.
“Many areas will start with a few drier days, although there will be some showers in the north.
“There is, however, a chance that deeper low pressure brings more widespread unsettled conditions for a time.”

The Met Office continued: “Into mid August, more changeable or unsettled conditions probably become prevalent.
“This may be due to Atlantic frontal systems or thundery plumes moving north from the continent or a combination of both.
“Temperatures will likely be a little above average, and there is the potential for some very warm or hot and humid spells, especially in the south, although perhaps not the heat we have seen in recent weeks.”

The changeable conditions may continue into the second half of the month, according to the Met Office. Hotter weather is expected later in August, though more rain can’t be ruled out.
The forecaster said: “Later into August it will most likely turn predominantly dry and settled, as high pressure patterns seem likely to influence the UK.
“This may be interrupted at times by Atlantic frontal systems, especially in the north, or by thunderstorms in the south.
“Nonetheless, overall rainfall amounts will likely be below normal. Temperatures will probably be above normal and some spells of hot weather and heatwaves are possible, especially in the south.”
