60 Minutes has suffered another blow as Stephen Colbert‘s daughter, Madeleine Carlisle, has resigned from her role as an associate producer on the long-running CBS News program.
According to Oliver Darcy’s Status newsletter, the 30-year-old producer handed in her notice in the past few days. Carlisle joined CBS News as an intern in 2017 before going on to report for The Atlantic and Time magazine. She returned to the network in 2022, serving as an associate producer on 60 Minutes for almost four years.
Her exit comes just over two months after her father signed off on The Late Show for the final time. Last July, CBS cited financial reasons for axing The Late Show, claiming the show loses $40 million annually. At the time, some critics argued the cancellation was politically motivated, with parent company Paramount hoping to appease President Donald Trump amid its merger with Skydance.
Colbert shares three children with his wife, Evelyn McGee-Colbert: daughter Madeleine, and sons Peter and John. Madeleine uses the surname Carlisle professionally.
Status also reports that Carlisle may not be the only behind-the-scenes staffer to exit 60 Minutes. The outlet notes that other producers are “actively exploring options” that could see them exit the news magazine program.
Carlisle’s departure comes at a tumultuous time for 60 Minutes, which has seen massive upheaval in recent months. In May, CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss fired 60 Minutes producers Tanya Simon, Draggan Mihailovich, and Matthew Polevoy, and correspondents Cecilia Vega and Sharyn Alfonsi.
After longtime correspondent Scott Pelley spoke out against Weiss and the firings during a heated staff meeting, he, too, was dismissed.
Weiss has since made new hires for 60 Minutes ahead of its 59th season, which is scheduled to return on Sunday, September 13. These new hires, which include controversial former British politician Sir Trevor Phillips and right-wing opinion writer Ross Douthat, have been met with backlash.
The Free Press co-founder also appointed Nick Bilton as the new executive producer of 60 Minutes. However, Bilton, who has no prior television news experience, has also faced criticism.
“People on the show and those associated with it believe Bilton is deeply underwater, though he has expressed confidence in his ability to get the newsmagazine to air this fall,” Status previously reported.
