Perez Hilton’s family is providing an update on the celebrity blogger’s condition after a shocking livestream appeared to show him harming himself.
The family posted a new update on his eponymous blog, revealing Hilton, 48, is “able to communicate” while he receives medical treatment for his injuries. However, the family said they have otherwise been left in the dark amid his hospitalization.
“This has been incredibly difficult and emotional for us, made even harder because very little information has been made available to our family,” they said. “While we continue to wait for further updates, we remain hopeful. We have also been able to confirm that Perez is able to communicate, which has given our family hope.”
The family added, “Your compassionate humanity during this heartbreaking time has meant more than words can express.”
In an unverified video circulated online, the podcaster was seen nude, covered in what appeared to be blood and exhibiting signs of distress while holding a sharp item.
The longtime blogger was later rushed to the hospital after the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office received “multiple calls” about a man “livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media,” the sheriff’s office confirmed to USA TODAY on Aug. 4. The office added that Hilton was “safely recovered and transported” to a local hospital and received medical attention after the incident.
The office added it was monitoring the situation and “providing the needed support to his family.”
In March, Hilton was hospitalized for several weeks after he developed an ulcer, perforation and sepsis and underwent laparoscopic surgery from taking medication on an empty stomach. Months after his illness, the blogger returned to his Miami hometown with his mother and three children, Mario Armando Lavandeira III, 13, Mia Alma, 11, and Mayte Amor, 8, all of whom he fathered through surrogacy.
