Police investigating suspicious death of 21-year-old in Portland

PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) — Police say they are investigating the suspicious death of a 21-year-old in Portland.
Police say they responded to the southbound side of I-295 near Exit 8 and the walking path adjacent to Tukey’s Bridge for a report of an injured person around 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
When officers arrived, they reportedly found a 21-year-old lying in the breakdown lane of I-295 adjacent to the walking path.
Police say the I-295 south on-ramp at Washington Avenue and Bates Street in Portland will likely be closed until mid-morning on Thursday. (WGME)
The victim was taken to Maine Medical Center, where they later died. The victim’s name has not yet been released.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
According to police, a suspect has been taken into custody and there is no danger to the public. Police have not released the name of the suspect or what charges they may be facing.
Police say no further details will be released at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.
