‘I’m hearing’ – Fabrizio Romano goes completely against Sky Sports’ Liverpool transfer claim

One look at Liverpool’s central defensive options will tell you that they are in desperate need of reinforcements in that position.

Virgil van Dijk is their only fit senior defender currently. Jeremy Jacquet hasn’t played a single minute in pre-season and is working his way back up to full fitness, while the likes of Giovanni Leoni and Joe Gomez are injured.

Last week, Sky Sports claimed Liverpool will not add to their backline this summer and will instead wait for their injured players to return.

Fabrizio Romano, however, has a different point of view.

Romano says Liverpool could sign a central defender

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Keep an eye out for centre-backs.

“What I’m hearing is that Liverpool could consider a move for a centre-back in the summer transfer window in these final weeks.

“Liverpool could add one more player in this position. More than right-back in this specific moment; I would keep an eye on the centre-back position.”

Honestly, we have no idea who is right, but we’re hoping it’s Romano.

It would be irresponsible to go into the new season with the current crop at the heart of the backline. A versatile defender who can play centre back and right back would be the dream signing for the Reds.

Ezri Konsa fits the bill and has been linked with Liverpool, but Arsenal are also interested and Aston Villa want £60m, so it remains to be seen if that happens.
