Staff at the National Trust for Scotland, who run the site at the Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre, reportedly told visitors that the cottage was closed due to the effects of the storm.
The cottage is a rare survivor of the 1746 Battle of Culloden which ended the Jacobite rising.
While the cottage has previously been restored, it still remains an accurate representation of how it would have looked during the time of the battle.
The roof will now have to faithfully and professionally restored which will require expert oversight due to its status as a nationally protected site.
