Cam Atkinson to sign one-day contract, retire with Blue Jackets

After a decade in Columbus, Cam Atkinson is returning one last time.
The longtime Blue Jackets forward will sign a one-day contract and retire with the club on Oct. 16, the team announced on Wednesday.
Atkinson, 36, spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Blue Jackets after being drafted by the franchise in the sixth round (157th overall) of the 2008 draft.
In 627 games with the club, the five-foot-eight winger recorded 213 goals and 189 assists.
Atkinson, of Riverside, Conn., helped lead the Blue Jackets to a shocking first-round sweep of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2019, posting eight points (two goals, six assists) in 10 post-season games that year.
He was dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers in 2022 in a trade for fellow forward Jakub Voracek and spent two seasons on Broad Street before wrapping his career last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Over 809 NHL appearances, Atkinson scored 253 goals and added 236 assists. He made two all-star games.
