Why Kevin Stefanski will wait until later in the week to decide if Shedeur Sanders will be the No. 2 vs. the Steelers

BEREA, Ohio — Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said he’ll wait until later in the week to decide if Shedeur Sanders will be the No. 2 quarterback behind Dillon Gabriel for Sunday’s game in Pittsburgh.
He said he’ll let the week play out and let the work determine his decision.
“I have to do what’s best for our players, our team,” he said. “I’m very invested in our quarterbacks’ development.”
If Stefanski decides that Sanders isn’t ready, despite the fact the rookie strongly believes he is, Bailey Zappe will serve as the No. 2, and Sanders will be the inactive emergency No. 3 quarterback for the sixth straight week.
Stefanski said the team was caught off guard by the trade of Joe Flacco, who was dealt Tuesday to the Bengals along with a sixth-round pick in exchange for a fifth-rounder.
He said he talked over the decision to trade Flacco with Browns players.
He declined to say if Sanders pleaded his case with Stefanski to be the No. 2 this week, given the fact he believes he’s ready to start.
