Active shooter in North Canton

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — Law enforcement agents have a North Canton apartment building surrounded after a woman was shot and police were fired on while rescuing her.
This morning at Versailles Garden Apartments, near Applegrove and Main streets, police were responding to a call when they heard shots fired, said North Canton Police Major Matthew Buzzard.
Police entered an apartment and found a female gunshot victim. Those officers were fired on from outside the apartment, said Buzzard, and they successfully got the woman out of the apartment through a window.
No officers were injured.
North Canton Police have been joined by law enforcement agencies throughout Stark County, as well as the FBI and the U.S. Marshals.
No shots have been fired since this initial incident, said Buzzard.
