Golden Knights at Sharks game 1: Lines, game thread and how to watch

Welcome to the season Sharks fans! Yes, we have finally arrived at the games that count and of course, the season has kicked off with a showdown with the Sharks’ biggest rivals, at least currently, the Vegas Golden Knights. There are a couple of reasons to be optimistic about tonight’s game. For one thing, this is game one of the season for the Sharks, but this game two of the season for the Golden Knights. That’s right, the schedule makers were kind to the Sharks and decided to start Vegas on back-to-backs with travel.

Vegas is smarting from a 6-5 shootout loss to the Los Angeles Kings last night. The Golden Knights trailed early, down 2-0 after the first frame. The team rallied in the second, tying things up at three apiece and then traded punches with the Kings in the third period before ultimately taking things to a shootout. All this means the Golden Knights could be pissed off that the team let a point slip away, or tired because the players had to work so hard to earn a single point. Either way, the young Sharks should be ready to jump on Vegas early and often.

For the Golden Knights, look for new addition Mitch Marner to make an impact. The winger had two assists in his debut with the Golden Knights. The true winner in this so far appears to be forward Pavel Dorofeyev, who left the night with a hat trick.

Also, remember that top defenseman Alex Pietrangelo is out for the entire season due to an injury. The Golden Knights did sign Noah Hanifin after trading for the defenseman at last season’s trade deadline. It also has depth players like Jeremy Lauzon and Kaedan Korczak that the team is hoping will fill the role. However, it will be up to Brayden McNabb and Shea Theodore to now take over as the top pairing in Pietrangelo’s absence.

San Jose Sharks lines for opening night

As for the Sharks, it looks like the rookies Michael Misa, Sam Dickinson and Yaroslav Askarov will get to take part in the opening night ceremonies, but they will not be lacing them up for the Sharks. It makes a bit of sense considering that Vegas is a bigger, rougher, more veteran team than Saturday’s opponent, Anaheim.

That means that it will be Alex Nedeljkovic in the net and Ryan Reaves skating on the fourth line.

Vegas Golden Knights lines vs. San Jose Sharks

As for the Golden Knights, we don’t expect there to be a morning skate, considering that the team skated last night in Las Vegas, so we’re guessing that the team is going with the same lineup as last night, with one notable change, and that’s in the net. Adin Hill played for the Golden Knights last night, so we’ll put Akira Schmid in the net for the team tonight. Other than that, everything stays the same.
