Fire crews have been tackling a large blaze at a derelict hotel in Cornwall.

Crews from five stations were called to the former Narrowcliff Hotel in Newquay shortly before 3.20am on Sunday morning.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters worked overnight to tackle the flames and remain at the scene this morning.

In a statement posted last night, the fire service said: “Pumping appliances from Newquay, Perranporth, St Dennis, Tolvaddon, and Mevagissey, are on scene along with the water carrier from Helston, and two aerial ladder platforms from Newquay and Truro.”

In an update posted at 6.25am, the fire service said “good progress was being made” to put the fire out.

The A3058 Narrowcliff remains closed in both directions with Lusty Glaze Road also closed through to Ulalia Road.
