Need help with your NFL picks? Lorenzo Reyes explains why he likes the odds for these three teams on Sunday.
NFL Sunday’s Week 6 is here. Playoff positioning will start to come into focus as the NFL schedule moves through October. However, after this week’s results, the NFL MVP race is expected to heat up.
According to the latest NFL MVP odds, the favorite for the league’s most prestigious award has a familiar name next to it.
There’s still a long way to go in Week 6 with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills set to be a part of the “Monday Night Football” doubleheader.
Allen is the reigning MVP and has spent the entire season as the favorite, according to BetMGM’s NFL MVP odds.
Similar to last season, Allen finds himself in an MVP race with a former two-time MVP award winner. Only this season, it’s none other than Patrick Mahomes who is chasing him. Mahomes is joined by Baker Mayfield in the top three in MVP odds entering Week 6.
The last time a non-quarterback won the NFL MVP award was in 2012, when running back Adrian Peterson took home the honors. He finished that season with 2,097 rushing yards. Before Peterson, it was Ladanian Tomlinson in 2006 when he had 28 touchdowns and more than 1,800 rushing yards. As history suggests, the current top players in MVP odds are all quarterbacks.
NFL MVP odds
Here are the favorites for the NFL MVP award in Week 6, according to BetMGM:
1. Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills: (+140)
It wasn’t until Week 11 last season that Allen found himself this heavy of a favorite. The odds suggest he hasn’t skipped a beat early in 2025 and is running away with the award. Allen earned his first MVP last season and finished in the top five in voting in three of the four seasons prior. He was the runner-up in 2020 behind Aaron Rodgers and a finalist in 2022 (third place) and 2023 (fifth place). After taking down the Ravens in dramatic fashion in Week 1, he put his stamp early on Lamar Jackson.
The Bills are coming off their first loss in 2025 and Allen will try to rebound against the Falcons on Monday night. He’s led the Bills to a 4-1 record thus far and the team owns the No. 3 scoring offense. Allen is ninth in passing yards with 1,217 and has nine passing touchdowns to go with 212 rushing yards and three rushing scores.
2. Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs: (+450)
The two-time NFL MVP has enjoyed a resurgence early in 2025. He has 190 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns through the first five games, putting him on pace for a career high. He is sixth in passing yards (1,257) with eight passing touchdowns. Mahomes has just two interceptions on the year and his start is impressive without top receivers Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy for the entire first month.
Kansas City is 2-3 entering Sunday but Mahomes can make a strong case against Allen with a win over the red-hot Detroit Lions on “Sunday Night Football.” With Rice’s pending return in Week 7, Mahomes should see another boost in passing numbers.
3. Baker Mayfield QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+750)
Joining the race is Baker Mayfield. Tampa Bay is off to a scorching 4-1 start. The former No. 1 overall pick has tossed 10 touchdowns and just one interception. He’s led the Buccaneers to three comeback wins and, most recently, had a marvelous performance against Seattle, completing 29 of 33 passes for 379 yards and two touchdowns.
Like Mahomes, Mayfield is putting up terrific numbers without some of his key playmakers. The following two weeks for Tampa Bay could be troubling, however, as they take on a pair of 4-1 teams in the 49ers and Lions. If Baker continues to cook through that stretch, he will surely push for the top spot in the MVP race.
4. Jordan Love QB, Green Bay Packers (+1200)
Love is quietly hanging close. Green Bay is coming off its early-season bye week and gets a struggling Cincinnati Bengals defense. Love has an opportunity to announce himself into the race with a big performance Sunday.
5. Matthew Stafford QB, Los Angeles Rams: (+1400)
The 37-year-old is off to a strong start in 2025. He’s led the Rams to a 3-2 record entering Week 6, but a disappointing loss at home against a banged-up 49ers team hurt his MVP odds. Still, Stafford leads the NFL with 1,503 passing yards and is second in passing touchdowns with 11. Stafford can pad his stats this Sunday against a depleted Ravens defense before Los Angeles heads overseas to battle the Jaguars in Week 7.
6. Jared Goff, QB, Detroit Lions: (+1500)
Goff leads the NFL with an astronomical 75.2% completion percentage. He’s in rare air. Drew Brees’ historic 74.4% mark in 2018 is an incredible metric that the Lions quarterback is on pace to break. He is first in passing touchdowns (12) and 10th in passing yards.
The Lions are another 4-1 team and are humming as they enter the “Sunday Night Football” showdown against the Chiefs. If Goff can lead his team to a fifth consecutive win and continue to put up massive numbers, he will jump the pack and push Allen for the top spot.
Detroit’s schedule will provide Goff with an opportunity to show he is worthy of MVP honors. The Lions’ next five matchups are against playoff teams from a season ago. Goff can stake his claim for MVP honors if he continues the Lions on this upward trajectory against these opponents.
