Ukraine have been steady in qualifying so far with one win, one draw and one loss from their three matches. They should have beaten Azerbaijan but only managed to come away with a 1-1 draw, but rectified this result with an eye-catching 5-3 win over Iceland last time out, as the away side.
Azerbaijan don’t really get the same joy on the road, they’ve lost both of their away matches in qualifying so far without even scoring a goal. Iceland put five past them when they welcomed them at the start of the qualifying campaign, and France came away 3-0 winners against them last time out. This should encourage Ukraine whose only home game so far has been against France.
Azerbaijan have held Ukraine already in this qualifying process but will struggle to repeat that achievement here, given the issues they’ve been facing on the road. Azerbaijan are unlikely to enter the race for 2nd spot in this group, which is a battle that is set to be fought between Iceland and Ukraine.
