Paramount+ renews popular sequel series for Season 2 after cancelling prequel

Fans of the Dexter Morgan universe got some killer news this week as the franchise’s latest series has been renewed for a second season. Star Michael C. Hall — who portrays Morgan — announced the news in a video shared on social media, confirming that “Dexter: Resurrection” will return.
“We’ve been greenlit for another season,” Hall said after thanking fans for watching the first season. “There’s more to come. The writers room is assembling now, and details will be forthcoming.”
“Dexter: Resurrection” premiered on July 11 on Paramount+ and Showtime and became the latter’s most streamed premiere ever. The 10-episode season was met with favorable reviews and featured an all-star cast that includes: Uma Thurman, Eric Stonestreet, Peter Dinklage, Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, and David Dastmalchian.
“Dexter: Resurrection” is the first “Dexter” spinoff to be renewed for a second season. The original series ran for eight seasons before ending in 2013.
A sequel series “Dexter: New Blood” premiered in 2021 with its story picking up years after the original series ended. The story told in “Dexter: New Blood” leads directly into season one of “Dexter: Resurrection.”
A prequel series, “Dexter: Original Sin” premiered in December 2024 and was initially greenlit for a second season in April 2025, but the show has since been cancelled. Fans of the prequel have launched a Change.org petition pressuring the studio to bring the series back. but so far, the efforts have been unsuccessful.
It is unknown when “Dexter: Resurrection” season 2 will premiere.
