Schools, offices in Columbus County announce delays and closures due to weather

WHITEVILLE, N.C. (WECT) – Columbus County Schools has announced it will operate on a two-hour delay for Tuesday, Oct. 14.

The decision comes after the nor’easter caused heavy rain and flooding over the weekend, which led to road closures in the area.

This delay follows Whiteville City Schools’ switch to remote learning and Southeastern Community College operating on a two-hour delay on Monday, Oct. 13.

Columbus County Schools already had Monday off according to the district’s 2025-2026 calendar, but Columbus County offices didn’t open until 10 a.m., due to potentially hazardous conditions.

School officials say they’ll continue to monitor conditions and update plans as needed.

No other school districts or colleges have announced delays or closures at this time.
