Emmerdale will not air on Tuesday (October 14) to make way for football.

The shake-up to ITV scheduling means the soap won’t be airing during its usual 7:30pm slot on ITV1 tonight, and an early release episode will not be available to stream via ITVX.

Instead, ITV1 will broadcast a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match between Latvia and England. The international clash will air tonight between 7pm and 10pm. Emmerdale will return on Wednesday in its usual slot.

Soap fans will now have to wait a day longer to see Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) return to the village following his trip from France.

On Monday (October 13), Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) received a phone call confirming her husband, Cain, had been arrested in Dover.

The incident came after he left the Dales in search of the villain John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) to bring him to justice for the death of his son, Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter). Moira and their son, Isaac, have also come down with a mystery illness.

Elsewhere, romance heated up between former flames Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), but Robert’s husband Kev (Chris Coghill) still remained a secret.

Carl Holliday (Charlie Munro Joyce) was also arrested for distributing an incident image of Clemmie Reed (Mabel Addison), leaving their two families clashing. Will Carl face harsh consequences?

Following weeks of worrying, Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) was informed that he does not have cancer, leaving his fiancée, Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), over the moon. But the question remains, what is causing the doctor’s health problems?

Emmerdale fans were fuming to learn the soap had been taken off air on Tuesday, with one Emmerdale fan writing on X: “No #Emmerdale again due to b***** football again! @ITV Come on.”

On Facebook, another asked: “Is emmerdale not on tonight? Xx”, while a third chimed in: “No, blooming football.”

“P*** off football, getting on my nerves that why people have Sky Sports not for ITV or BBC One”, added another.

Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX
