Ty Lue is doing what he did with two Cavaliers stars to make Brook Lopez ‘comfortable’

Brook Lopez has joined the Los Angeles Clippers after a seven-year stint with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Brook Lopez changed his game during his tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks as he became a three-point specialist, albeit being a center.

The Los Angeles Clippers signed him for the 2025-26 NBA season for that exact reason, and head coach Tyronn Lue has a special strategy for him to succeed.

Ty Lue makes Channing Frye, Kevin Love point amid Brook Lopez’s arrival

Lopez’s arrival gives the Clippers a stretch-five that they never had before. After all, Ivica Zubac is a traditional center and has attempted just 12 three-pointers across his nine-year NBA career.

One might wonder if that’ll make Lopez’s life difficult in LA, but Lue reminded fans about his coaching tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

During his Cavs’ stint, Lue coached the likes of Channing Frye and Kevin Love, which helped him create tactics featuring stretch fives.

“I’m back to my Channing Frye days [and] Kevin Love days back in Cleveland. Just a lot of stuff we can run, that I’m comfortable with, and he’s getting comfortable with now,” Lue said, via Tomer Azarly.

Lue still hasn’t tried his full coaching playbook with Lopez in the preseason, but he intends to do so come the regular season.

Ty Lue is excited about having a real ‘shooting-five’ in Brook Lopez

Adding Lopez to the team is one of the biggest changes for the Clippers ahead of the new season.

In fact, even Chris Paul revealed his excitement to play with Lopez. Coming back to Lue’s comments, he spoke about how the Clippers finally have a real shooting-five on the roster.

“We got a shooting 5, man! We haven’t seen that in a long time. A real shooting 5, not small-ball 5, that’s totally different,” Lue concluded.

The Clippers have started their preseason with a loss, but Lue may try new tactics with Lopez to get a W in the dub column.
