Bulls Make Intriguing Signing Days Before Regular Season

To cap off a thoroughly underwhelming offseason during which they’ve tried to avoid being the story as much as possible, the Chicago Bulls have reportedly made a big-

Sources have informed Michael Scotto of HoopsHype that Chicago has inked former three-time Slam Dunk Contest champ and 2024 G League MVP point guard Mac McClung to a new contract. Terms of the deal have not been divulged.
The 26-year-old may be looking at another NBAGL tenure, at least to kick off this season.

Chicago currently has all 15 of its standard roster spots occupied, and also has players signed to all three of its two-way slots.
McClung, likely on a training camp deal, could be competing for a two-way gig in theory, but seems destined to begin the year on an affiliate contract with Chicago’s NBAGL affiliate in Hoffman Estates, the imaginatively-dubbed Windy City Bulls.
Provided this is an Exhibit 10 deal, McClung becomes eligible for a signing bonus worth as much as $85,300 — should he stick in Windy City for at least 60 days, that is.

McClung has almost singlehandedly revived the Slam Dunk Contest with his imaginative arsenal of rim-rattling highlights, but has yet to consistently crack an NBA rotation.
This is not the 6-foot-2 Texas Tech product’s first stint with Chicago. He agreed to a pair of 10-day deals with the Bulls during the 2021-22 season, appearing in just one game for team.
He has also suited up for the Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Orlando Magic. In his six NBA games across three seasons, McClung has averaged 5.5 points on .429/.333/.667 shooting splits, 2.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists in just 12.7 minutes per.
A G League Legend
Across 30 regular season bouts for Orlando’s NBAGL affiliate, the Osceola Magic, McClung averaged 25.77 points on .512/.378/.827 shooting splits, 5.7 dimes, 4.0 boards, and 0.9 swipes in 32.7 minutes a game. He was named to the All-NBA G League First Team for his efforts.
Interestingly, McClung is only the second player to be a three-time Slam Dunk Contest champion — joining a prior ex-Bulls point guard, Nate Robinson. Robinson notched that honor while with the New York Knicks, although he arguably enjoyed his best individual season — in terms of combined performance and team success — during his 2012-13 season stint in Chicago.
