Ligue 1 weekend predictions, odds & best tips: PSG face a real test of their mettle

European champions Paris Saint-Germain are, somewhat predictably, already setting the pace in Ligue 1, but Luis Enrique’s kings of the continent are not quite having things all their own way.

PSG top the table with 16 points after seven games but they are closely followed by Marseille, Lyon and Strasbourg, who take on the champions in Paris in a Friday night humdinger.

PSG v Strasbourg

Kick-off: 7.45pm Friday

Ligue 1 leaders PSG have won all of their matches at the Parc des Princes this season to nil but third-placed Strasbourg may be able to get on the scoresheet in Paris. Both teams have scored in eight of the last nine meetings and 14 goals in seven games shows the firepower Strasbourg have in their ranks.

Prediction: PSG to win & over 2.5 goals

Nice v Lyon

Kick-off: 4pm Saturday

Lyon’s four-match winning run came to an end in a 2-1 defeat at home to Toulouse prior to the international break and goals look the way to go on their trip to Nice. Both teams have scored in Nice’s last five matches, which includes a 2-2 draw at Monaco most recently.

Prediction: Both teams to score

Angers v Monaco

Kick-off: 6pm Saturday

Monaco have won only one of their last five games in all competitions but they are still fifth in Ligue 1 and should have too much quality for Angers. The hosts have taken only five points from seven games and have lost their last three league matches to nil.

Prediction: Monaco

Marseille v Le Havre

Kick-off: 8.05pm Saturday

This should be a routine task for Marseille, who are second in Ligue 1 after winning five of their first seven matches. Le Havre have failed to score on their last two away trips and may struggle to breach OM, who have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four matches.

Prediction: Marseille to win to nil

Lens v Paris FC

Kick-off: 2pm Sunday

Lens have defeated Brest 3-1 and Lille 3-0 in their last two home Ligue 1 games and they can make it three on the spin against Paris FC. The visitors are not to be underestimated but they have won only one of their four away matches, losing 5-2 at Marseille along the way.

Prediction: Lens

Lorient v Brest

Kick-off: 4.15pm Sunday

Three of the last four Ligue 1 meetings between these sides have gone over 2.5 goals and this could be another entertaining encounter. Lorient’s home league matches this season have seen them overcome Rennes 4-0 and Monaco 3-1 either side of a 7-1 hiding at the hands of Lille.

Prediction: Over 3.5 goals

Rennes v Auxerre

Kick-off: 4.15pm Sunday

Having shared the spoils in four of their seven games in Ligue 1, Rennes need to start turning draws into wins. They should be able to find a way past Auxerre, who have found the net just once in successive away defeats at Nice, Nantes and PSG.

Prediction: Rennes

Toulouse v Metz

Kick-off: 4.15pm Sunday

A 2-1 win at Lyon prior to the international break shows that Toulouse are a capable side on their day and they should have too much quality for a misfiring Metz outfit. The visitors have taken only two points from their first seven league outings and have shipped 16 goals.

Prediction: Toulouse

Nantes v Lille

Kick-off: 7.45pm Sunday

Nantes have played out three straight draws in Ligue 1 and the trend may continue at home to Lille, who have failed to win any of their last three league outings. Nantes took four points from Lille last season and they are difficult to beat at home.

Prediction: Draw
