‘Peaky Blinders’ Creator’s 100% RT WWII Drama Flies up Streaming Charts Following Season 3 Renewal

Early in September, the fate of SAS: Rogue Heroes, from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, was finally revealed with a Season 3 confirmed months after the epic Season 2 finale. The historical series has aired on BBC One since October 30, 2022, generally highlighting real war events as described by Ben Macintyre in his 2016 book of the same name. Now, a little over a month after getting renewed, the series is trending on the streaming charts in the U.S. once again, as well as in a few international territories.
Starring Sex Education’s Connor Swindells, SAS: Rogue Heroes quietly resurfaced on MGM+ in the U.S. only 24 hours ago, sitting at the tenth spot on the top TV shows. The 100% RT drama can also be seen among the leading shows on HBO Max internationally in countries like Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, as well as on the Australian streamer SBS. In addition to Swindells, SAS: Rogue Heroes stars Game of Thrones‘ Alfie Allen, who only appeared in Season 1, Jack O’Connell, Dónal Finn, Jacob Ifan, Sofia Boutella, Theo Barklem-Biggs, Bobby Schofield, and Dominic West, among others.
Following its debut on the BBC, SAS: Rogue Heroes arrived in the U.S. on Epix (now MGM+) on November 13, 2022. The captivating series then returned for a second run on January 1, 2025, followed by its American premiere eleven days later. As described by its synopsis, it chronicles the creation of the British Special Air Service (SAS) during World War II, beginning with the formation of a small, unconventional commando unit (by Swindells’ Lieutenant David Stirling) in the North African desert.
What’s the Latest on ‘Peaky Blinders’?
Peaky Blinders may have ended years ago, but as fans know, the story is far from over. A sequel movie titled The Immortal Man and written by Steven Knight has since been announced as a continuation of the British favorite, featuring a stacked ensemble. Among the listed stars are Cillian Murphy returning as Thomas Shelby, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, and Barry Keoghan.
What’s more, two more Peaky Blinders projects were also announced earlier this month courtesy of Netflix and the BBC. Much to fans’ delight, creator Knight is expanding the acclaimed franchise with two 6-episode seasons that will continue the Shelby family story, picking up after the events of The Immortal Man, which recently wrapped production. According to the House of Guinness creator, the sequel series could be “potentially a better iteration” than the original, considering that he and his team “felt there was an appetite for more.”
