Chelsea hire Jurgen Klopp’s former Liverpool recruitment expert

Fallows will join a senior football leadership team headed up by dual sporting directors, Paul Winstanley – one of many to come from Brighton – and Laurence Stewart, previously at Monaco. In addition, they have Sam Jewell, son of manager Paul, who also arrived from Brighton and Joe Shields, once of Crystal Palace, Manchester City and Southampton.
Fallows began his career as an analyst, like Edwards, who is now the chief executive for football for the entire Fenway Sports Group, the owners of Liverpool. Both men worked for Prozone Sports, the original data analytics contractor, in the early 2000s. In 2003, he went on to Bolton Wanderers as head of analysis, working closely with Sam Allardyce. Fallows followed Allardyce to Newcastle United for one year as head of technical scouting.
After that stint, Fallows spent four years in recruitment at Manchester City before joining Liverpool in September 2012. At Liverpool under FSG in its early days using data analytics, Fallows became part of the club’s scouting and data recruitment revolution. He joined Edwards, Barry Hunter, the chief scout, Julian Ward, now the club’s technical director, Ian Graham, the former director of research, and Dave Woodfine, also now back at Liverpool as assistant sporting director.
Fallows announced his departure from Liverpool in October 2024 having fulfilled a number of roles, most recently the director of scouting and recruitment. Upon his departure last year, Liverpool said that Fallows’s work had been “fundamental” in helping build the teams who won the Champions League, Fifa Club World Cup and Uefa Super Cup in 2019, as well as the 2020 Premier League title, two League Cups in 2022 and 2024, and the 2022 FA Cup.
