The collaboration with Wheelers Garden Centre has been open three months

Singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor and her husband Richard Jones have opened their own coffee place in Chiswick.

She posted on Instagram last night:

‘@richardjonesface and I are huge coffee lovers so (as some of you may know) 6 months ago, we decided to get involved in our own coffee place, @fourleafldn

‘Nestled within the gorgeous garden centre @wheelersofchiswick, the coffee van is a total joy and @nialljohnmurphy does such a wonderful job running and maintaining it. He makes a particularly good cappuccino if I may say so myself & but everything on the menu is delicious!!

‘Do head over and show it some love.’

When she first posted about it in May she had responses from Pixie Lott: ‘This is so coool congrats guys!’ and Danni Minogue: ‘Can’t wait to stop by!’

Coffee van trend

Coffee vans are becoming very popular in Chiswick. The opening of this one on Turnham Green Terrace follows the success of Dear Coco, the pretty Piaggio Apè van at Strand on the Green run by Anthony Duckworth, and Short & Tall, run by Damian Wojnarowski at Chiswick railway station.

The advantage of serving coffee from a van is that owners don’t have all the overheads of a cafe. A business on wheels does not have to pay business rates.

Anthony tried to upgrade to bricks and mortar at a location just a few hundred yards from Wheelers garden centre, where Sophie and Richard’s new business is. He pulled out two years ago when he was almost at the point of opening, as another cafe beat him to it and opened directly opposite.

He crunched the numbers and decided the area was over-saturated with coffee shops.

Like Anthony, whose day job is International Marketing Director for one of the world’s largest brands, Sophie is very adept at marketing.

The pictures on Instagram, surrounded by plants and flowers, look very inviting, and she has the advantage of the garden centre being right next to the tube station, nearer than the popular Hack & Veldt under the railway bridge on Turnham Green Terrace, or the Heisenberg cafe around the corner on Bath Road.
