Fabrizio Romano Shares Update on Brendan Rodgers’ Future at Celtic

Brendan Rodgers could leave Celtic at the end of his contract next summer, although the club want to keep him, Fabrizio Romano has revealed in his latest GIVEMESPORT newsletter.

The Hoops have had a slow start to the season and have been eliminated from the Champions League, while they’re also behind Hearts in the Scottish Premiership table, and that has led to some speculation over the future of the manager.

Rodgers was publicly frustrated by the club’s transfer business during the summer window too, and with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, it’s unclear if he is willing to extend his stay.

Fabrizio Romano: Rodgers Could Leave Celtic

Reports suggest that the manager is unsure of his future and would be open to returning to the Premier League, or managing abroad, once his contract expires.

When asked about the current situation, Romano revealed that there are some clubs showing an interest in the Northern Irishman but there is no guarantee that he won’t stay at Celtic beyond the current campaign.

“There are clubs interested in Rodgers, so an exit in summer 2026 is a possibility. But not a guarantee yet. Celtic will try their best to keep him.”

Rodgers initially joined Celtic in 2016 and spent just under three years at the club after leaving Liverpool, where he won two league titles, two Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups, before leaving to return to the Premier League with Leicester City.

The 52-year-old then returned to Glasgow in June 2023 to replace Ange Postecoglou, and has since won two more Scottish league titles, another Scottish Cup and another Scottish League Cup. But his future remains in doubt despite the success of his most recent stint.

Celtic are still the heavy favourites to lift the league title again, considering Rangers’ poor start to the season, but Rodgers has found himself being criticised by fans for his style of play, team selection and comments in the press.

Celtic are keen to keep hold of him, however, and are planning to hold talks with him over a new contract as they look to maintain the stability that has made them a dominant force in Scottish football over the last decade.
