Heavy rainfall of approximately 40 to 75 mm is anticipated between Sunday and Monday mornings

A rainfall warning has been issued for the Greater Sudbury area, stretching from Sunday morning through Monday morning.

Heavy rainfall with amounts totalling 40 to 75 mm are anticipated throughout the Greater Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island areas, Environment Canada cautioned.

“The heaviest rain is expected to fall through the day Sunday,” they noted in their warning, issued today. “Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.”

As those who have been outside or looked out a window today will already know, rainfall has already begun.

Showers are forecast to end early this evening, followed by a 40 per cent of showers this evening and after midnight, with rain beginning overnight alongside a risk of thunderstorms.

For information concerning flooding, people are encouraged to consult their local Conservation Authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources office.
