McFly’s Dougie Poynter and Busted’s Matt Willis took to the streets of Cardiff to try non-alcoholic cocktails and described one of the best bars in the city as a strip club. The pair were recently in the Welsh capital for their Busted vs McFly gigs in September 2025.
Matt has been sober for more than seven years, having been addicted to alcohol and drugs when he was younger. Dougie also had addiction problems when he was younger, and now no longer drinks alcohol.
They tried out Cardiff’s famous Lab 22, which is located on Caroline Street, also known as Chippy Lane, and is the place to go for a post-night-out takeaway, and is an award-winning cocktail bar.
Hidden next to a Greggs, Dougie and Matt compared the bar to a strip club.
They said: “This bar is right next door to a Greggs, there are two big bouncers on the front, it feels like you are going to a strip club.
“It feels exactly like you are going to a strip club!”
Dougie then joked: “From what I’ve seen online, when I was investigating strip clubs, online, I’ve never been.”
Matt added: “I only know because I was a stripper for many years.”
They then pursued the extensive menu, which has many of the cocktails available in a non alcoholic option.
As they tried their cocktails, Matt called it “quite the experience”, said the bar was “lovely” and called the cocktail “unbelievable”, while Dougie rated the bar “22 out of 22”.

Lab 22 takes its inspiration from science and describes itself as having “a prevalence towards the different and daring.”
Recently Busted star James Bourne has revealed he’s had to pull out of the band’s joint tour with McFly just a week before they were meant to take the stage at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena on Tuesday, September 23.
The singer took to social media to share the sad news that he would no longer be able to take part in the tour due to his health.
