A wet start and sunny finish as another system pushes through the region Wednesday

Temperatures will range in the low to mid-50s as you head out the door before slowly climbing to the mid-60s as a southwesterly flow funnels some relatively warmer air into the region.

The front will pass by late morning, and skies will clear a bit, enough for the sun to come out at times during the afternoon and evening. One thing to note: The storm will stall over eastern Canada, leaving a handful of back-door showers to pop up later in the afternoon, but these should remain north and west of Boston.

Skies should only turn partly cloudy at night as lows dip into the 40s. This will allow for the chance to catch some shooting stars on the back end of the peak Orionids meteor shower, especially for folks across Southern New England.
The setup — Morning rain, sun returns later
It’ll be an active weather day, that’s for sure. We’ll see a front pushing through the region on Wednesday morning, which will spark scattered showers that hold varying intensity. Like I mentioned above, we should avoid flooding, but there could be a handful of downpours that cause a few slowdowns on the roads, so just give yourself some extra time to get to work or school.
The afternoon and evening should be mostly dry across Boston and Southern New England, but we can’t rule out a stray shower or two to work into the region as the core of the system remains parked in eastern Canada. The sun should break through at times during the afternoon.

Boston may end up with about a quarter of an inch of rain, with a few higher totals of a half inch to an inch stretching from Worcester through most of New Hampshire.
Northern New England should see some much-needed rainfall Wednesday.Boston Globe
For those thinking about the drought up north, rainfall totals and intensity should remain under the threshold that would result in flash flooding. For sure, drought has made the ground up north extremely brittle and difficult to absorb the rainwater. But the guidance suggests that the most vulnerable areas, in yellow and orange, below, would need to see up to 2 inches of rain in a three-hour window for that to happen. We’ll most likely stay below that mark.
Still, there could be some isolated areas that see ponding in low-lying areas.

Aside from the rain, you’ll notice a pesky breeze throughout the day of around 10 to 15 mph, with nearly all of New England seeing gusts between 20 and 25 mph at times.
