A legendary broadcaster known for his work in sports, news and pop culture is in the hospital.
TMZ reported Tuesday that Bryant Gumbel suffered a “medical emergency” in New York City. He was taken to the hospital just after 9 p.m. on Monday, TMZ reported.
Gumbel, 77, is perhaps best known for his 15 years as co-host of NBC’s Today, but he also hosted HBO’s acclaimed investigative series Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel between 1995 and 2023.
He’s hosted numerous sporting events for NBC over the years, covering Major League Baseball, college basketball, the National Football League and the Olympics.
He retired from broadcasting in 2023 and battled lung cancer in 2009.
His older brother, Greg Gumbel, is also an iconic broadcaster known for his work with CBS.
Greg died at 78 in December 2024 months after he missed the NCAA men’s basketball tournament he was synonymous with.
