Man and woman dead and five in hospital after Hyndland flat fire

Nine fire engines and a height appliance were dispatched to the scene, along with five ambulances, a paramedic response unit and two trauma teams.

The first fire engine was on the scene in seven minutes.

Fire service area commander Andy Kenna said: “We were alerted at 22:13 on Monday October 20 to reports of a fire affecting a first-floor flat within a four-storey building on Hughenden Lane in Glasgow.

“Sadly, two people were found to have passed away at the scene. Our thoughts very much remain with their friends, family, and wider community at this sad time.”

She added all properties in the building were evacuated and firefighters rescued a number of residents.

Fire crews remained at the scene until 16:53 on Tuesday after ensuring the area was safe.
