The Golden State Warriors may receive an unexpected break Friday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves listed All-Star guard Anthony Edwards as questionable with right knee soreness ahead of their matchup with the Golden State Warriors, potentially easing the challenge for Golden State as it continues to navigate life without injured superstar Stephen Curry.
Minnesota’s injury report also listed reserve wing Ayo Dosunmu as questionable with a right thumb sprain.
For the Warriors, the possibility that Edwards could sit out offers a glimmer of relief during a difficult stretch without Curry, who remains sidelined while recovering from a right knee injury.
Anthony Edwards Injury Could Shift Warriors–Timberwolves Matchup

Edwards has been the centerpiece of Minnesota’s offense this season, and his potential absence would significantly change the dynamic of Friday’s game.
The 22-year-old star erupted for 36 points on 11-of-17 shooting in the Timberwolves’ 153–128 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, adding five assists, two rebounds and a steal in 35 minutes.
The performance marked Edwards’ 18th game with at least 35 points this season and highlighted his importance to the Timberwolves’ scoring attack.
If he is unable to play, Minnesota would lose the player responsible for carrying much of its offensive load during a challenging stretch of the schedule.
For Golden State, that development could prove significant.
The Warriors have dropped three straight games but have remained competitive despite playing without Curry, the engine of their offense.
Warriors Still Waiting for Stephen Curry’s Return
While Golden State monitors Edwards’ status, the team is still awaiting clarity on Curry’s return timeline.
Head coach Steve Kerr said Thursday there is still no firm timetable for when the two-time MVP will return to game action.
According to The Athletic’s Nick Friedell, Kerr said Curry completed another workout Thursday but has not yet progressed beyond individual on-court work.
“Kerr says Steph is trending in the right direction but still hasn’t progressed beyond individual work,” Friedell reported on X. “Kerr said he got a good workout in today, but it remains unclear when he’ll return. ‘He’ll be back when he’s back.’”
The Warriors have also not discussed any internal deadline for Curry’s return, according to Kerr.
Curry is recovering from patellofemoral pain syndrome and a bone bruise in his right knee, injuries that have kept him out for 15 games.
The Warriors confirmed earlier this week that the superstar guard has returned to individual workouts following a medical re-evaluation, though he has not yet resumed full team practices.
Golden State plans to re-evaluate Curry again in about 10 days, suggesting his return may still be some time away.
Golden State Trying to Stay Afloat Without Curry
The Warriors’ cautious approach reflects Curry’s importance to the franchise.
The four-time champion last played Jan. 30 against the Detroit Pistons and still leads the Warriors in scoring this season at 27.2 points per game.
Since his injury, Golden State has gone 5–10, struggling to maintain consistency without the spacing and playmaking Curry provides.
Head coach Kerr acknowledged earlier this week that the star guard has been eager to return.
“He’s frustrated,” Kerr said in a radio interview with 95.7 The Game. “He wants to be out there for his guys… He’s dying to be out there.”
Still, the Warriors have remained committed to a cautious recovery plan guided by team medical staff, including director of sports medicine and performance Rick Celebrini.
“It’s pretty methodical,” Kerr said. “Rick is as good as they come, and he’s going to be very cautious and make sure Steph gets the right build-up.”
Tough Schedule Ahead for Warriors
Friday’s matchup with Minnesota begins a demanding stretch for Golden State.
After facing the Timberwolves, the Warriors embark on a four-game road trip against the New York Knicks, Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics, and Detroit Pistons.
Those games could push Curry’s absence closer to 20 games if he remains sidelined until the next medical update.
With the regular season entering its final stretch, Golden State has 17 games remaining, making every contest critical in the crowded Western Conference playoff race.
For now, the Warriors will continue waiting for their franchise star — and possibly catching a timely break if Minnesota is forced to play without Edwards.
