Being married to the country’s most powerful anti-vaxxer can be hard on your friendships. At least, that’s been the case for actress Cheryl Hines, who has been married to Health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for 11 years but apparently lost a few friends after he aligned himself with Trump. A few weeks after Hines’s longtime friend Tig Notaro said she decided to “step away,” Hines admitted on Katie Miller’s podcast that she has “had some friends who are so emotional about politics that even me being married to Bobby is too much for them.” The good news is that Hines has actually made tons of new friends since moving to Washington. In fact, she says her husband’s new job has been great for her social life.
For one thing, she is loving hanging out with President Trump. Speaking about meeting him for the first time last summer, she recently told Tucker Carlson, “He shook my hand and, you know, he was a very genuine person … I met somebody who was very interested in other people, really wanted to hear what other people had to say.”
Actually, judging from her recent tour on the MAGA podcast circuit, Hines only has nice things to say about everyone she’s met in Washington. “I really like the people that Bobby works with,” she told Carlson. “I like them as people, you know, as someone to hang out with and talk to at the dinner party.” During an appearance on Megyn Kelly’s podcast earlier this month, when Kelly asked who her “bestie” in Washington is, Hines said that she “really likes” Marco Rubio and his wife, Jeanette. She also has a soft spot for the woman in charge of dismantling the Department of Education, Linda McMahon. “There’s something about her that kind of feels … it reminds me of family,” Hines told Miller.
Melania Trump has been “so sweet” to her, too. Recalling a moment after the inauguration, Hines said that Melania encouraged her to “enjoy” her life in D.C. “When she said that, I thought, Yeah, why don’t I try to enjoy it,” Hines told Carlson. “Those were the words that I needed to hear at the moment.” Sounds like she’s off to a great start.
