Del Mar City Council to consider Shores Park master plan committee appointments

The Del Mar City Council will vote Nov. 3 on appointments to the newly created Shores Park Master Plan ad hoc advisory committee.

Residents who are tentatively slated to become voting members are Saniya Bloomer, Alessandra Franco, Will Holliday, Joe Sullivan, Larry Brooks and Judd Halenza. Lynn Gaylord will be considered as a resident voting member from the Parks and Recreation Committee, Kim Kanetis as an ex-officio non-voting member representing The Winston School, and Thomas Neuman as an ex-officio non-voting member representing the Del Mar Community Building.

The committee was created Sept. 8 by the council. Mayor Terry Gaasterland and Councilmember John Spelich were appointed committee liaisons. They decided to expand committee membership from seven to nine voting members after receiving 19 applications from interested residents.

The terms for each position will run from Nov. 3 until the council adopts the master plan.

On Oct. 20, the council approved a one-year contract worth approximately $170,000 with Schmidt Design Group for continued work on the Shores Park master plan. The firm had worked on it previously before it was put on hold in 2019.

Schmidt Design Group will be narrowing three options down to one, presenting “an illustrative model of park amenities, site furnishings, lighting, a conceptual plant palette, and a design,” according to a council agenda report.
