Game Status | Jayden Daniels ruled out but won’t need surgery

Quarterback Jayden Daniels will be out for the Washington Commanders’ Week 10 game against the Detroit Lions, but the team got some positive news about the quarterback’s health

Daniels will not require surgery on the dislocated elbow he suffered in Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Dan Quinn said Friday. Daniels will not be placed on Injured Reserve at this time.

“I thought it was a good process, like all the players do to get second opinions and getting all the information on what to do and how to do it,” Quinn said. “It’s a good deal with no surgery. Obviously, that makes a big difference when you have an injury not to go down that road.”

After having a final meeting regarding Daniels’ next steps in his recovery earlier in the week, the Commanders determined that Daniels would not need surgery on his elbow. Quinn said they will continue to monitor Daniels’ health and will reevaluate the injury during their bye week following the Week 11 matchup against the Miami Dolphins in Madrid.

While it is technically possible for Daniels to make a return this season, that decision has not been made yet. It remains uncertain whether the quarterback will suit up any of the final six games after the bye week.
