The Vancouver Canucks are moving on from head coach Adam Foote after only one season.
The Canucks fired Foote on Tuesday after a disappointing season in which they finished last in the NHL and entered a deep rebuild by trading captain Quinn Hughes, the team announced.
Vancouver also dismissed assistant coaches Scott Young, Kevin Dean and Brett McLean.
The decision was made by new general manager Ryan Johnson, who was hired last week.
Under Foote, the Canucks were 30th in goals-per-game, 32nd in goals-against-per-game and 31st on the penalty kill. That poor performance came amidst of season of roster flux, as goaltender Thatcher Demko was limited to only 20 starts due to injury, veterans Kiefer Sherwood and Tyler Myers were traded and young players were cycled through the lineup.
Before becoming head coach of the Canucks, Foote was an assistant under former head coach Rick Tocchet for three seasons.
