Earlier this week, influencer Kayla Nicole, who also happens to be Travis Kelce’s ex, came under fire for resurfaced tweets from 2010 to 2014. The posts came to light after a Swiftie fan account screenshotted her “questionable” Twitter account, the content of which seemed to include homophobic slurs and derogatory language aimed at people of Asian American, Mexican, and Indian descent. On Thursday, a few days after deleting her X account, the 34-year-old posted an apology to her Instagram story. “I take full responsibility for what I posted, and I’m truly sorry to anyone I may have hurt,” she began.

“I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize for the hurtful tweets I posted so many years ago,” she wrote. “Seeing them resurface last week has been incredibly difficult, and reading them now, I’m ashamed that I ever thought or spoke that way. They were ignorant, hurtful and completely wrong.”

“The woman I am today would never use those words or express those kinds of views,” she went on. “Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how cruel and harmful online hate can be, and I would never want to add to that world of pain in any form. I have since deleted those tweets and my X account entirely, because I refuse to keep that energy alive or contribute to a cycle of hate.”

In screenshots of Nicole’s original posts, the former sports broadcaster appeared to retweet a post calling Asian people “rude as fck,” refer to a woman as a “dumb fat Mexican hoe,” and threaten to tell an “Indian girl praying/chanting through the walls” that “buddah [sic] isn’t real.” A handful of tweets also seem to have included homophobic slurs.

While Nicole has nearly 1 million followers on Instagram through her wellness brand, Tribe Therepē, and her podcast, The Pre-Game With Kayla Nicole, she received renewed attention when Kansas City Chiefs player Kelce started dating Taylor Swift. Nicole and Kelce dated on and off between 2017 and 2022, but after Swift, now Kelce’s fiancée, dropped The Life of a Showgirl, Nicole appeared to take a dig at the singer via her Halloween costume.

“I take full responsibility for what I posted, and I’m truly sorry to anyone I may have hurt,” Nicole continued on Thursday. “My heart, values, and perspective are completely rooted in empathy, love, and respect for others. I can’t change the past, but I will continue showing through my actions who I’ve become and what I stand for today.”
