Seattle Mariners officially re-sign Josh Naylor; terms reported

Less than 24 hours after it was first reported, the Seattle Mariners have made their re-signing of Josh Naylor official.

The Mariners announced their five-year contract with the veteran first baseman through 2030 in a press release Monday afternoon.

Mariners’ offseason opportunities ‘endless’ after Naylor re-signing

Shortly after, ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan reported that Naylor’s contract is worth $92.5 million – a yearly salary of $18.5 million – and includes a full no-trade clause. That makes it the largest contract given by the Mariners to a position player in free agency since Robinson Canó’s 10-year, $240 million signed in 2013.

Naylor shared a statement in the press release, as did Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto and general manager Justin Hollander. Here’s what each of them said.

Josh Naylor

“I’m going to be a Mariner again and I couldn’t be more excited. From the moment I arrived, everyone in the organization welcomed and helped me. The players brought me in and loved my game right away, and the fans were incredible. Seattle has the best fanbase in baseball. They’re electric and support us through and through, and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. I can’t wait to continue to play with these guys and bring the city a championship.”

Jerry Dipoto

“Ensuring that Josh remains a Mariner for the long haul was a priority for us. Josh’s intelligence, intensity, toughness, and competitiveness show up every day. He’s simply a winner.”

Justin Hollander

“From his first day as a Mariner, Josh has been a perfect fit on the field, in the clubhouse, and in our community. We are thrilled that he will be with us for the next five seasons.”
