Ohio State football will be without two of its best players vs. Rutgers: Buckeyes injury report

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football will be without its two best receivers, Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate, during Saturday’s game vs. Rutgers.
Tate has not played since a Nov. 1 victory against Penn State. He ranks eighth in the Big Ten with 711 receiving yards and sixth with seven touchdowns.
Prior to a Nov. 8 win at Purdue, Tate felt some tightness, according to coach Ryan Day. The seventh-year coach said Tate could have played against the Boilermakers but didn’t as a precautionary measure.
He was then listed as out on OSU’s availability report heading into last week’s win vs. UCLA. When asked Tuesday if Tate was dealing with a setback, Day provided no update.
Smith was listed as questionable on last week’s availability report. While he suited up — catching four passes for 40 yards — he only played 22 snaps.
Smith’s 10 receiving touchdowns lead the Big Ten, and he ranks third with 902 yards.
