Michigan loses second player in 2026 football recruiting class

Michigan has lost its second player from the 2026 class because of the scandal surrounding the firing of disgraced former Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore.
Offensive lineman Bear McWhorter, who signed on Dec. 3 as part of the upcoming freshman class, announced Friday on social media he is opening his recruitment.
“In light of recent events, I’ve made the very difficult decision to withdraw my NLI,” McWhorter wrote. “I’m grateful to the staff at UM for everything they’ve done.”
Moore was fired Wednesday after two seasons as head coach for what athletic director Warde Manuel in a statement called “an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”
Biff Poggi, who was Moore’s associate head coach, is filling in as interim head coach as Michigan prepares for the upcoming bowl game.
McWhorter’s decision comes a day after tight end Matt Ludwig was released from his letter of intent to Michigan. Ludwig was the first in the class of 27 signees to withdraw from his letter of intent.
