Shelby football is back in an NCHSAA state final for the first time since 2021. The Golden Lions beat Lincolnton, 30-0, in the 3A West final on Dec. 5, 2025.
Shelby football looks to score its 20th state championship in program history on Saturday, the Golden Lions taking on Kinston in the NCHSAA 3A state final.

The rout is on
After an interception by Kendrick Raper, Shelby’s Lan Farmer hits Lorenzo Roseboro for a touchdown with 3:34 left in the third. It’s his ninth TD of the game. Shelby leads 70-41.
Shelby starts second half as the first
Lan Farmer’s 1-yard TD run gives Shelby a 63-41 lead early in the third.
HALFTIME: Shelby 56, Kinston 41
More fireworks from Copper, Kinston
After starter Tyler Jones left with an injury, freshman Michael Eaton connects with Tyreek Copper for a TD just before halftime. The extra point was no good, leaving the game at 56-41.
Kinston makes game’s first mistake, Shelby makes it pay
Kinston quarterback Tyler Jones intercepted by Shelby’s Jayden Williams with 3:57 left in the first half. On the following play, the Golden Lions’ Lan Farmer hitting Lorenzo Roseboro for a 52-yard TD. Shelby leads 56-35 with 3:11 until halftime.
Shelby makes it 7-for-7
Shelby answers Kinston’s latest score with a Farmer TD pass to Kendrick Raper. The Golden Lions lead 49-35 with 4:49 left until halftime.
Kinston gets special teams score
Marshall recruit Brennan Chambers gets a kickoff return for a TD, joining his TD reception earlier in the quarter. Shelby leads 42-35 with 7:09 left until halftime.
Shelby scoring bonanza continues
Lan Farmer to Immanuel Collins for a long TD pass. Shelby leads 42-28 with 7:22 left until halftime.
Kinston aerial attack continues
Marshall recruit Brennan Chambers gets in on the act, his acrobatic TD catch pulling Kinston to within 35-28 of Shelby with 7:31 left until halftime.
Shelby continues scoring barrage
Jonas Woods gets in on the act for Shelby, getting three big gainers, the last a TD run. The extra point was blocked, but Shelby leads 35-21 with 9:19 left until halftime.
Teams trade scores
Lan Farmer throws his third TD of the game, this one to Lorenzo Roseboro who went over a Kinston DB to give Shelby a 29-14 lead. Immediately after, Kinston’s Copper got his second long TD of the night, a 52-yard catch-and-run to cut the Golden Lions lead to 29-21.
Copper gets loose
NC State recruit Tyreek Copper gets loose for a 69-yard TD reception. Extra point good, Kinston cuts Shelby lead to 22-14 after the first quarter.
Shelby makes it 3-for-3
Shelby converted a pair of fourth down plays, culminating in a Lan Farmer 1-yard TD run. After a two-point conversion, the Golden Lions lead 22-7 late in the first.
Shelby takes first lead
Following a short punt, Shelby needed three plays to takes its first lead, Lan Farmer hitting Calvin Ramseur for a TD. Extra point was good, Shelby leads Kinston 14-7 with 6:25 left in the first.

Shelby answers with a three-play touchdown drive of its own, quarterback Lan Farmer connecting with Lorenzo Roseboro on a TD pass. Extra point is good, Shelby and Kinston are tied 7-7 with 8:22 left in the first.
Kinston strikes first, and in a hurry
Kinston needs four plays and less than three minutes to draw first blood on a touchdown pass from quarterback Tyler Jones to Genesis Wiggins. Extra point was good, Kinston leads 7-0 with 9:37 left in the first quarter.
