Report: Orioles acquire Shane Baz from Rays for mutltiple top prospects

Big things are happening in the AL East.
Going back to Tampa Bay is a slew of young players: outfielder Slater de Brun, catcher Caden Bodine, right-handed pitcher Michael Forret, and outfielder Austin Overn, Baltimore’s sixth, 10th, 11th, and 30th ranked prospects, respectively.
Baz had a breakout season in 2024, going 4-3 with a 3.06 ERA in 14 starts. His numbers dipped off in 2025, his first full season in the majors, going 10-12 with a 4.87 ERA in 31 starts.
Baltimore’s starting pitching, or lack thereof, has been a hot topic this off-season. Baz joins an Orioles rotation featuring the likes of Trevor Rogers, Dean Kremer, and Kyle Bradish.
Bodine, 22, was selected by the Orioles in the first round of the 2025 First-Year Player Draft out of Coastal Carolina University. He appeared in 11 games with Class-A Delmarva in his professional debut this past season, slashing .326/.408/.349 with one double and four RBI.
Forret, 21, is coming off his second professional season, going 2-2 with a 1.58 ERA, allowing 13 earned runs in 74.0 innings while recording 91 strikeouts, a 0.82 WHIP and a .157 opponent batting average across 16 appearances with Class-A Aberdeen and three starts with Double-A Chesapeake.
