Nick Nurse gives injury update on Joel Embiid before 76ers face Knicks

NEW YORK — The Philadelphia 76ers will look to get back in the win column on Friday when they take on the New York Knicks on the road. The Sixers have not played since Sunday when they fell to the Atlanta Hawks and will look to get back moving in the right direction.

They will have to do so without the services of Joel Embiid who will miss the contest due to an illness and right knee injury management. He was originally listed as questionable due to the illness, but he was then downgraded to out on Friday’s injury report due to both issues.

Due to the fact that the right knee designation popped up, one has to wonder if it’s due to the knee that he isn’t playing. However, Nurse did provide some clarity as he pointed to the illness as well.

“He’s not playing because of both,” coach Nick Nurse said before the contest.

Another concern for the Sixers is that this is the first time Embiid has been on the injury report with the right knee problem in a while. It has mostly been due to the left knee issue, so that has to be on the mind of Nurse and the Sixers.

“I don’t think there’s anything new,” Nurse added. “And I don’t think anything happened. It’s all just part of trying to manage the stuff going forward.”

The Sixers will return home on Saturday to play host to the Dallas Mavericks so one has to wonder about his status for that contest.
