2 residents, 3 firefighters hurt in 4-alarm Williamsburg, Brooklyn house fire that spread to at least 2 other homes

WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn (WABC) — A four-alarm fire burned through a home in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, injuring at least five people.
Fire broke out in the home on Humboldt Street just before 2 a.m. Monday.
Fire tore through the building and spread to at least two neighboring homes.
Firefighters worked for hours trying to get the flames under control, pouring water onto the house with multiple hoses.
Crews were focusing their attention on breaking down some of the paneling and then spraying it down.
A neighbor said her friend who was affected is devastated that this happened just days before Christmas.
“She’s just crying hysterically and her dog,” said Bianca Arroyo, a neighbor. “I just feel so bad for her you know, she’s just lost everything.”
Two residents were burned and taken to the burn unit at New York Presbyterian Hospital. They had “minor burns to the face and other areas of the body,” the FDNY said.
Three firefighters were treated for minor injuries.

New York City Department of Buildings inspectors issued full vacate orders for 494 and 496 Humboldt Street.
The DOB said that 492 Humboldt suffered minor damage.
As a result, DOB has issued Full Vacate Orders to 494 and 496 Humboldt Street, and ordered the building owners to construct a tight board fence to seal their properties in the interest of public safety, and to enlist a Professional Engineer to submit a report to the Department on the structural stability of the buildings.
The FDNY said that the weather conditions impacted their efforts at the scene. Much of the water froze on the ground as they fought the fire.
“During this cold weather, we have to relieve our units very frequently,” said Chief of Operations Kevin Woods, FDNY.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
