Chicago crime: Robbers transfer money using Zelle, Apple Pay after asking victim for donation or Instagram follow on Dearborn Ave

CHICAGO (WLS) — Chicago police issued a warning regarding several robberies on Dearborn in River North.

All four incidents happened early in the morning in the 600-block of North Dearborn Avenue, police said.

CPD says a group of men tricked people into giving them their phones by asking for a donation or a follow on Instagram.

The offenders then stole money through Apple Pay or Zelle.

If people refused to give up their phones, Chicago police say the group took the device by force.

Police are warning people not to walk around, holding their phones in their hands.

The incidents happened at the following dates and times:

– Saturday, Dec. 13 at 3 a.m.
– Saturday Dec. 20 at 3:30 a.m. and 5 a.m.
– Sunday Dec. 21 at 3:30 a.m.
