Ben and Erin Napier won’t host ‘Home Town Takeover’ for HGTV; Canadian hosts to replace couple

A new season of HGTV’s “Home Town Takeover” is coming, but this time with a major change.
The “Home Town” spinoff will head to Canada for the newest season, and longtime hosts Erin and Ben Napier won’t be returning as main hosts this time around, according to USA Today.
“Our production company is Canadian. The people who make our show, they’re passionate about this Canadian takeover,” Erin Napier told Cinemablend. “But because we’re Americans, we’re not legally allowed to host the show. We can only be in it as, like, guest stars.”
“A Canadian broadcast show has to be hosted by Canadian talent,” Ben Napier told Cinemablend.
Canada passed the Online Streaming Act in 2023 to give “Canadians more opportunities to see themselves in what they watch and hear” and to “support Canadian creators and creative industries,” according to Canada.ca.
Because of the law, the Napiers will step away from the new season of “Home Town Takeover” in favor of a new pair of Canadian hosts. The new hosts have not yet been announced, according to USA Today.
The Napiers have been hosting “Home Town” since 2016. The show follows the couple as they renovate historical homes in Laurel, Mississippi. The spinoff “Home Town Takeover,” launched in 2021, and saw them venture outside of Laurel in favor of other small towns.
