A ‘Scary Movie’ Favorite’s Remake of a Kurt Russell Rom-Com Is Streaming for Free

Despite the many reboots, remakes, and sequels being constantly green-lit in Hollywood today, few expected a Scary Movie 6 to be announced. To the delight of millions, this is exactly what arrived in August, with it confirmed that Regina Hall, Anna Faris, Marlon Wayans, and more would return. “ It’s funny, and it’s great,” Hall told Collider’s Taylor Gates in reference to the script, adding, “I’m very excited to be working with Anna again, the Wayans again, and so many of the original cast members. It’s a big reunion for everyone.” Ahead of the film’s scheduled June 12, 2026, debut, another of Faris’ more recent comedy projects is available to stream for free.
The 2018 romantic comedy Overboard, which starred Faris alongside Eva Longoria, Eugenio Derbez, John Hannah, Swoosie Kurtz, and Mel Rodriguez, is currently available to stream for free on Pluto TV, but it will leave at the end of the month. A disappointment with viewers, earning just 24% from critics and 54% from audiences on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, this remake of the 1987 original starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell at least proved successful at the box office, turning a reported $12 million budget into a total global gross of $91.2 million. A synopsis for the movie reads:
“Kate is a single, working-class mother of three who’s hired to clean a luxury yacht that belongs to Leonardo — a selfish, spoiled and wealthy Mexican playboy. After unjustly firing Kate, Leonardo falls off the boat and wakes up with no memory of who he is. To get payback, Kate shows up at the hospital and convinces the confused amnesiac that they’re married. As Leonardo tries to get used to manual labor and his new family, Kate starts to wonder how long she can keep fooling her fake husband.”
What Might the New ‘Scary Movie’ Have in Store?
As excitement continues to build for the next chapter in the Scary Movie franchise, thoughts turn to where our favorite faces will be as the film begins, with plenty of time having passed since they all last appeared. “I know they can’t be anywhere good. Nobody’s trajectory looked that promising from that crew,” Hall said in the aforementioned interview with Collider, adding:
“I don’t think anyone’s changing the world, but who knows? Who knows? I’m excited for Scary Movie fans to see it. It’s been a very long time, but I’m excited to revisit Brenda. Wow. I’m like, ‘Brenda, what are we doing now? Where are you?’ One of the great things about Scary Movie is we all always had so much fun making them, so I’m really looking forward to the fun part and how much fun I think we’ll all have seeing each other again and getting the gang back together.”
Overboard is streaming on Pluto TV. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming stories.
